Research Opportunities for Science Teachers
With support from the Murdock Charitable Trust, the Partners In Science program supports two consecutive summers of mentored research experience with University of Oregon researchers.
Eligibility criteria:
Current full-time middle or high school science teacher
OR
UO undergraduate majoring in a science and at least 4 terms away from graduation with interest in teaching.
Benefits of participation include:
- Authentic science research experience (8 weeks)
- Research discussion group meetings
- Professional development workshops for science communication
- Research seminars
- Pre- and post-summer Partners In Science conferences
- Connections to the research community to support teaching
- $5,000 stipend (undergraduates) $6,500 stipend (in-service teachers) each summer
- Opportunity for classroom innovation grant to support research-inspired classroom materials (in-service teachers only)

Applications will be reviewed when they arrive. The application will remain open until all positions are filled. Note that the application includes detailed descriptions of specific research opportunities for applicants to rank by preferences. Target dates are June 30 – August 22, 2025, plus a 1.5 hour on-campus orientation meeting on Wednesday, June 18.
Participant teachers are also expected to attend the following events hosted by the Murdock Trust (travel is supported):

- Sat. June 7 from 8:30-9:45am Pacific – Option 2
- Teaching Practices Conference
- August 5-8, 2025 in Vancouver, WA
- Research Symposium
- January 16-17, 2026 in Portland, OR
